Feeding Guideline
AVIA Horse Feed
- The amount of concentrate depends on body weight, forage quality, workload, age, body condition, pregnancy/lactation and climate.
- For a 500 kg adult horse, this may typically represent around 2.5–5 kg concentrate per day depending on workload and the quality of forage available.
- Divide concentrate into two or more smaller meals. Horses should not be given more than about 0.5% of body weight in grain-based concentrate in a single feeding.
| Horse Category | Indicative AVIA Horse Feed |
|---|---|
| Maintenance / Light Work | 0.5–1.0% of body weight/day |
| Moderate Work | 0.75–1.25% of body weight/day |
| Heavy / Performance Work | 1.0–1.5% of body weight/day, according to total ration |
| Growing Horses | According to age, body weight and forage quality |
| Pregnant / Lactating Mares | Adjust according to stage and body condition |
